Important Guide For Purchasing Quality Used Houseboats
May 4th, 2009 by Lucy Katts

There are many things for you to think about before you head out and buy a houseboat. Important things to know before you buy are the condition of the houseboat, the boats size, the seaworthiness of the craft, and whether the engine is properly functioning. Do not buy any used houseboats unless you have an opportunity to look at all these things.

When buying a used houseboat you will also need to look at whether you are getting a good value for your money. Houseboats will not go up in value like a regular home will. Do not pay more for a houseboat than it is currently worth as the value will just decrease over time. Find the best houseboats for sale here.

You will want to have your houseboat inspected just as you would when buying a traditional home or a regular boat. When looking from the outside look for any areas that are leaking or need to be patched. Patches on a houseboat could be an indication of problems that can soon be very costly. Inspect the carpet for any signs of algae or mildew. Both of these things are signs that the houseboat has not been cared for by its current owners. Do not hand over your money or sign a contract until you have had the houseboat inspected by a professional.

While everything may look fine to you there could be issues that will be missed by someone without proper training. Hire an experienced marine surveyor who can tell you about existing damage and the cost of the repairs that are needed. You should exercise the same level of caution buying a used houseboat as you would in buying any other type of home. Houseboats are not less expensive than regular houses and you want to pay a fair price.
