Thinning Hair in Women
Apr 16th, 2009 by Lucy Katts

It is common and even accepted for men to be bald. Although it is accepted it does not stop some men feeling embarrassed about their baldness and start looking for a way how to prevent hair loss. So can you imagine how it must be for a woman as their hair is one of the main areas that makes a woman feel attractive, and when it starts to fall out confidence can go with it too.

As a female, if your hair does start to have bald patches in it you should just quickly check a couple of things before coming to the overall conclusion that your hair is actually thinning. You should take time out and think about lifestyle really, are you stressed or is your diet poor? What about your hairstyle have you been wearing a style that pulls on your hair or getting lots of colors done? Although things like this may not seem relevant, they are and can have an effect on your hair.
Of course, these things may not apply to you, so in that case there could be something hormonal happening within your body as hormones have a huge effect on many things within the body and one of them being hair.

Following are some of the common things that can happen to a woman to adjust hormones and interfere with the hair growth.

One of the first areas to look at is if you are going through the menopause. If you are then there is a high probability that your hormone production is slowing down. Women who are post menopausal and also have bald patches is probably higher than you would imagine, in fact it can occur in up to 2/3rds of the women in that group. The most common way of treating this slow down is with HRT and following is a little explanation of the hormones which slow down, and why it can cause hair loss:-

Basically, before menopause a women will produce both estrogen and testosterone hormones. But the estrogen will not allow testosterone to be converted and move around the body as it acts in a way like a barrier. When the menopause starts, the production of estrogen diminishes and this can allow testosterone to have a bit more of a free reign. This in turn can turn into DHT which is a high amount of testosterone and if there are areas of the scalp sensitive to this then this can lead to hair loss.

If a woman is unfortunate enough to have to undergo a hysterectomy, then this too can be a bit like going through the menopause as again there is really little or no estrogen being produced, and this too is going to lead to a higher probability of hair loss.

The third thing that can really mess around with a womans hormones and change the structure of their hair is pregnancy. When a woman becomes pregnant there are huge amounts of changes that start to occur within the body as you can probably well imagine. During the pregnancy thick hair can thin and thin hair can thicken, straight hair can become curly and vice versa. This is down to the massive hormone changes which take place within a woman when they are pregnant, and for some women after having a child, their hair is never the same again.

These just cover some of the hormonal changes, however if you feel that none of this is applicable to you then, remember to have a little think about stress, hairstyle and food as well. In particular if you feel as if your diet is letting you down then you may want to consider taking some vitamins for good hair growth.

3 Ways To Backup A DVD To Your HDD
Apr 16th, 2009 by Lucy Katts

All physical media deteriorates over time, and DVDs are no different. If you wish to be able to re-watch your precious video discs five or ten years from now, it would be prudent to create a backup copy or two. There are several ways to do this - by copying the DVD, or saving the DVD contents to your hard drive. In this post I’ll discuss the second possibility - backing up your DVDs to the HD.

The most straightforward (and least likely to work) way to back up a video DVD is to just copy the files normally - right click the disc drive and select “Explore” to avoid the auto-play, then drag & drop any files you see to somewhere on your hard disk. This usually works fine with personal discs like the recording of you marriage or some such, but not with factory-made DVDs.

Another way to back up a DVD is to create a “disc image”. A disc image is a single file that contains all the data of a disc. The most widespread disc image format is ISO, though some backup tools may also store it as a .mdf file or other proprietary file formats. To create a disc image you could use e.g. ISOBuster or MagicISO. To view the disc’s contents later, you will need to burn the image file to a blank DVD or use a virtual drive to mount it.

Finally, there is another way to back up a disc - DVD ripping. In essence, you use software like “Any DVD Converter” and it creates video file(s) from your DVD(s). This way you can handily play the video whenever you want, but you also forfeit the menus and you won’t be able to burn an exact copy of the DVD if the original gets damaged or is lost. Anyway, I won’t go into detail here - this is a nuanced topic that would take a post of it’s own to describe.

Well, there you have it - 3 simple ways to back up your DVDs to the HD. Hopefully you’ve found this post useful.

Website Generator Software Guide
Apr 16th, 2009 by Lucy Katts

Website generator software has several built-in functions that help affiliate marketers make the building of sites fast and easy.

First time shoppers of these tools need to know what to look for in these site generators to make the most of their time and money spent using them.

One of the most important features to have is a way to monetize or make money from the sites these generators create.  A web site generator should make it easy to add an affiliate ID to the links that redirect to the affiliate program site or individual merchant product page.  Ads or links to the main affiliate programs such as AdSense, Clickbank, Amazon and eBay should be included in the design or templates.

Website generators should eliminate or minimize the need to tweak any code such as HTML or PHP.  Although it should still allow users who are comfortable with code to add it to the sites they are building. It should have a clean and intuitive user friendly admin panel where data can be entered to configure or modify elements of the site.

A basic set of templates should be supplied for users without web design experience to help them get started quickly.  These templates should allow users to easily modify or customize the appearance so sites can be unique or different from other sites built using the same site generator. On-page SEO factors that help with the ranking of a site in the search engines should be built into the templates supplied.

Developers of web site generator software should also have a support system in the form of a ticketing system or forum set up to take any questions users have, whether to get help using the software or to report technical bugs.  A helpful response should be given back in a timely manner.  For those who need additional help, articles or videos demonstrating how to use the website generator software features should also be made available.

The reason anyone would use site generator software is to save time by avoiding the need to learn how to design or code a site from scratch that will make them money online.  The features and functions discussed should be a basic guide on how to select the right website generator tool.

Whatever Happened To The Stomach Vacuum?
Apr 16th, 2009 by Lucy Katts

How about a stomach exercise you can do while watching TV or sitting in front of a computer at work. This is an exercise that will tighten your abs in a dramatic way in just a few short weeks. It’s not uncommon for people to lose 2 to 3 inches in that time. The stomach vacuum is just that exercise. It’s a long forgotten stomach flattening exercise that can be done just about at any time and anywhere.

The main muscle that is engaged by this exercise is the transverse abdominal muscle which runs horizontally underneath you oblique muscles. The transverse abdominis muscle is basically what holds everything in, so by doing this one simple exercise you are tightening the abs and shrinking the waistline at the same time. Another reason to strengthen the transverse ab muscle is that it helps to eliminate lower back pain by stabilizing the spine and pelvis areas.

So what is the stomach vacuum? It’s pretty much what it sounds like. If you have ever sucked your stomach in for any reason, then you were basically doing the stomach vacuum. Now to actually do this stomach exercise correctly you need to suck your tummy in and picture pulling your belly button up and to the back toward your spine. Try to pull it in just as far as you can go and remember to breathe. It doesn’t matter if your sitting, kneeling or standing on your head. The stomach vacuum can be done in any position.

To start with try and hold it for 15 seconds then relax for about a minute. Now repeat it 2 more times. Over time you will want to increase the length of time you hold the vacuum position and increase the number of sets you do as well. Another option with this particular tummy flattening exercise is just to do it through out the day. Since you are not noticeably moving around you can sneak a set or two in at any time.

Do these everyday over the next couple of weeks and you will be absolutely amazed by the results.
