Cyprus as the perfect mediterranean destination
Aug 2nd, 2009 by Lucy Katts

Holidays in Cyprus offer so much more than lazing around in the sun and partying the night away in Ayia Napa. If you’re a party of adults in search of activities and places of historical interest, or a family looking for safe beaches and plenty to keep the children occupied, Cyprus is sure to provide just what you’re looking for. The west coast of Cyprus is the best choice if you are seeking traditional charm, laid-back living and achealogical heritage, whilst the east coast is arguably the place to find the island’s best beaches and secluded coves.

Pathos Cyprus is one of the island’s most popular resorts, and with good reason as it combines being a UNESCO world heritage site with a cuturally diverse, modern tourist resort. The coastal part of the town is known as Kato Pathos and has a beautiful harbour and a wide choice of open air cafes and bars. The Pathos climate and in Cyprus generally is glorious with around 300 days of sunshine each year. With this fantastic climate, you will want to while away an evening in one of the many well known Pathos restaurants

13km to the north lies the fast developing resort of Coral Bay which is a more peaceful alternative to Pathos, and boasts one of the finest beaches in the area. There’s a wealth of accomodation, catering for all your holiday needs. Tucked between a pair of rocky headlands, the stunning gently shelving sandy beach is an excellent place to chill out and enjoy the Cypriot sunshine. Reclining sun beds and beach umbrellas can be rented for the day at reasonable rates. Coral Bay beach also has a convenient beach side bar offering a good choice of drinks, tasty bar snacks and toilet facilities. Coral Bay beach also has a large free car park.

Is SEO dead?
Aug 2nd, 2009 by Lucy Katts

I was reading a thread at a big webmaster forum yesterday which made the claim that “SEO is dead.” Now, it’s hard to say whether or not the original poster was being serious or sarcastic, but he referenced some other news he’d been reading on a few authority sites that made the “dead” claim.

The notion was that, because of the prevalence of Web 2.0 community sites, the idea of needing to optimize for any of the engines was going away — and fast. The idea was also put forth by another poster that, because of the huge number of content management systems that are already setup to be “search engine friendly”, the need to have any additional knowledge to rank well was quickly diminishing.

My answer to all this? Poppycock.

First, while it is true that there are many CMS programs that are search engine friendly out of the box, on-page factors matter so little to ranking (at least in Google) that even if the on-page playing field was leveled, it would make little difference in the current search engine results.

Second, SEO is about far more than just what’s on the page. The way you analyze what keywords are worth optimizing for, the way you write the content around those keywords, and the links you get to the pages that you want to rank for those keywords all have a large role to play in how much traffic you get from the search engines — and that analysis takes specialized knowledge. Anyone can learn to do it, but it does have to be learned.

Third, and most importantly, Web 2.0 is nice, and sites that revolve around that kind of community are huge traffic mongers (e.g. YouTube), but there will always be a need for full-text indexing of the web.

So is SEO dead? Nope. It’s alive and well, and will be for as long as people need to search for information on the web.

Rugs with Strips and Decoration
Aug 2nd, 2009 by Lucy Katts

With varying sizes of stripes and different elements of color, striped rugs can go a long way in setting the overall theme and tone for a room. A modern rug pattern with big stripes creates a contemporary look. Furthermore the smaller the room you are decorating, large bold stripes have a more substantial effect. When deciding on a striped pattern it is vital that the other pieces of furniture have a more understated, or contemporary rug look due to the bold nature of many striped patterns. Integrating to many patterns into a room can create an overly “hectic” look.

Lastly, and most importantly is the color scheme of the striped rug that you select. A general rule of thumb for modern tibetan rugs is to select a color combination that mirrors that of the existing colors in the room, or compliments those colors. Some striped rugs have a very bold color combination with contrasting colors. This type of pattern can work well but only when the existing pieces of furniture in the room are monotone and have subtle, understated colors.

With some ingenuity, you can break up the look of any room in your home using area rugs. The more difficult task is to choose the right rug to go with the decor of the room. Area rugs, in addition to being the starting point of the good design of the room can also finish it off well.
