Dec 22nd, 2009 by Lucy Katts

But, as you will soon find out, the cost of pre built chicken coops are astronomical!

The answer is simple, Build Your Own Chicken Run

My First Chicken Run

With a little help from my dad…
When I was just a young boy I had a fascination with what seemed like the hundreds of animals that my dad kept in our back yard. In reality it wasn’t many, twenty rabbits (prize winning dutch), about sixty budgies, three tortoises, five guinea pigs, and a dozen or so chickens.

Now keeping the chickens was a bit weird, as my dad managed a poultry farm with over twenty thousand of them, maybe a bit like bring some work home with you!

But one day why riding my bike around the yard I accidentally ran into the chicken pen, with predictable results, it fell apart…

Luckily for me my dad had a sense of humour sometimes, and that day was one of those days. My punishment was to help him build a new chicken house, some punishment for a boy who just loved messing about with bits of wood.

After a few days we had knocked together the chicken’s new home, just a shame that we didn’t have access to some of the great plans that are available now as it wasn’t a pretty site.

Binge Eating Disorders
Dec 22nd, 2009 by Lucy Katts

Binge Eating Disorder is a disorder in which people use food to satisfy a variety of emotions in order to cope with them. People may binge when they experience any negative emotion, such as anger, sadness, or depression. Another reason a person may binge is shear boredom. People have used food as a coping mechanism for so long that now that it is a habit to turn and use food to make them feel better. People do not know how to deal with their life anymore without food. Binge Eating Disorder is the most common of all eating disorders. It affects about 25 million people.

When a person binges, they usually experience some, if not all, of the following: eating an usually large amount of food, feeling a loss of control while eating, consuming food more quickly than the average person, eating large amounts of food even when they do not feel hungry, feeling better eating alone because the amount of food is typically large, and feelings of guilt, disgust, and even becoming ashamed of themselves after a binge occurs.

The cause of Binge Eating Disorder is unknown. Depression and other emotional problems are prevalent in binge eaters. Many researchers think that there is a connection between people who diet and binge eat. When people diet, they deprive themselves of certain foods which causes them to want it more. When they do give in, they usually eat too much of this food and it most likely turns into a binge. Then the negative feelings set in and they make a promise that they aren’t going to eat bad anymore. This usually results in starting the cycle all over again and this is known as yo-yo dieting.

There are many consequences to binge ing. High blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity are just a few complications that can arise when people binge. Many people can become sick from a binge because the foods that they chose to binge on as not full of vitamins and nutrients. The foods are fuller of sugar and fat and this, obviously, is very unhealthy.

Treatment for Binge Eating Disorder has the highest recovery rate of any disorder. People usually meet with a psychotherapist or psychiatrist. The health professional will ask questions about the persons past to figure out when they started comforting themselves with food. They will get to the root of the problem and why is started and will give advice as to how the person should deal with those feelings when they happen. If this does not work, some medications may be added to treat the binge eating.

Changing the habit of turning to food is the key point in getting started. Changing all of the old habits will put you one foot closer to stop binge eating and to start getting on with your life

A Useful Stock Market Principle
Dec 22nd, 2009 by Lucy Katts

In 1906, an Italian economist named Vilfredo Pareto observed that roughly 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population. This observation became known as the Pareto Principle or the 80-20 rule. It is not a hard and fast rule but the principle applies to our lives. In essence, not everything we do is equal. We can observe that large amounts of activity produce limited results. Conversely, we can also observe where small amounts of activity yield great results. This observation might be called the vital few and the trivial many. The key is what does this mean to me.

When it comes to anything, there are tradeoffs. For every YES there is a NO. When we say yes or engage in some type of work or recreation, we are really saying no to other things that we could be doing. The use of the Pareto principle could be used to help lead us to a more productive and profitable life. When I was a counselor in a Rescue Mission, I would challenge my clients to make a list of the areas of life that they needed to work on. For many the list was long. I frequently observed that they would select the trivial many instead of going after the significant few. They would work hard but in the end, they would give up or fail. They would wonder why. I would ask them if they wanted at least a 50-50 chance of success. All agreed. I would then use this illustration. Suppose you had ten items to work at. If the principle applied, it would suggest that 2 items would yield 80% of the overall desired results. It they chose to work on the trivial 8, they would have some return but clearly nothing like selecting the top one or two. In fact, it would yield less than 50%. They could work on 8 and get roughly have a 20-80 chance or work on the most important and have 80-20 chance. Those that selected properly faired much better.

When it comes to stock market education, there is a lot of material. My goal in developing the free stock market course is to present the significant few verses the trivial many. As an introduction, there is a free online stock market course that you can use to help make your choice.
