Identifying Above The Line Tax Reductions for your return in the New Year
Feb 12th, 2010 by Lucy Katts

When it comes to federal internet taxes, your focus should be to pay only what’s necessary, nothing more. Because your tax liability is determined by your income, the surest way to reduce the taxes you pay is to minimize your income. Of course, you must do this without illegally reducing your income. You can do this by taking certain above-the-line tax deductions.

Above-the-line-tax deductions are basically like tax breaks that are adjustments to your income. They’re identified as above-the-line because they are reduced on the first page of the tax return just above the bottom line. These deductions reduce your adjustable gross income and effectively decrease your tax liability.

The following are a few above-the-line tax deductions that are discussed in our Internet Tax Guide which you can consider if you are eligible.

• Moving expenses, if you moved for professional purposes.

• Self-employment. Half the amount of taxes that are calculated to Social Security and Medicare.

• Self-employed retirement plans.

• Self-employed health insurance. The total amount you pay in health insurance fees not only for yourself, but for your spouse and dependents as well. Even contributions towards long-term care policies are deductible.

• Penalties paid for early withdrawal of savings. The account manager of such an account should send you a 1099-INT or 1099-OID form including the early withdrawal penalty.

• Alimony payments. If you became divorced and funding alimony, you can deduct these payments from your income. You must provide your ex-spouse’s social security number; or the deduction might be disallowed.

• IRA deductions for amounts contributed to traditional IRAs for individuals who are self-employed.

• Student loan interest. Up to $2,500 in student loan interest paid can be deducted for single filers making $65,000 or less or joint filers making $135,000 or less.

• Jury duty pay if it was turned over to your employer.

You can get many of these above-the-line tax deductions by using the long form, 1040. If you would rather use the short from, 1040A, you can still utilize some of these deductions. Early account withdrawal penalties, IRA contributions, student loan interest and jury pay are the above-the-line-tax deductions that may be claimed on the 1040A tax return. Children’s Vitamins
Feb 12th, 2010 by Lucy Katts

The most important way for your kids to get all of the vitamins they must have, is through

eating a healthy diet, balanced with all the proper foods. They should be offered foods from various. food groups, anddinner should be made that work in

tandem togive your young ones all the important nutrients. They need fresh fruits, vegetables, lean

meats, fish, whole grains, milk, cheese, and other nutrients to remain healthy.

Somechildren jump at the chance to devour all of the food groups in the right amounts, but certainly not all

of them. A good number children are rather pickey, and refuse to eat healthy at all. It is for children like this that

childrens vitamins were developed. A number of boys and girls eat quite a few

foods that are processed, and do not contain any important nutrients.

Just like adults, adolescents need a diet that is good for them  as well.

Unhealthy eating might cause children to have difficulties learning the way they should. It is not easy to get the proper training when your body and brain are not receiving the nutrients that

is important for them.

For younger ones that refuse to eat as they should, they can get childrens vitamins to help fill in the

nutritional vaccuum. This to take the place for poor eating, as the best sources for nutrients

are from foods. In most casesprovide good vegetables to your children, and try unique ways to get them

to try it. For times when nothing works, chewable vitamins can be

given.

One of the necessary things missing in childrens diets, are the omega three essential fatty acids. They are

needed for the nervous system and brain function, and this is something that is certainly  vital during the school year. You can find

this fatty acid in pumpkin seeds, tuna, flax oil, and canola oil. For kids that don’t care for fish, it

might also be taken as a kids vitamin.

If kids don’t care for fruits and vegetables, then they more than likely aren’t

getting the needed amount of Vitamin C in their daily diets. It is also critical for the immune system

to function as properly to keep a young one healthy, and for building connective tissue. It also blocks free radicals, and is

important for the brain to think as well.

B complex vitamins have quite a few functions, and some are involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates. If a child eats a diet high in sugar and starch, they may lack B vitamins.

Many experts believe that lots of nutrients have been taken out of the

soil, so they are also declining in fruits and vegetables as well. Calcium and magnesium are necessary  to build strong bones, zinc is good for the immune system, and chromium helps in carbohydrate metabolism.

For most kids, high quality childrens vitamins, along with omega three  important fatty

acids, is a good idea to take daily. If a child has health concerns, they may need a different

type of vitamin, so find out from your doctor first.

When you purchase chewable vitamins for younger ones, be sure that they are purchased from a nutrition or health store. They come in the

form of liquid, capsules, and tablets as well. If a family takes the proper vitamins for women, men and children, then the whole family will live a healthier life.
